The flags in Harrison Hot Springs will fly at half mast after the death of a Sts’ailes council member of chief.
That’s part of the new policy approved by Harrison council Monday (March 1). The policy update was put forward back in October, to make changes that would include the Sts’ailes First Nation flag, which was put up permanently in the village in 2019.

All four flags will now be flown at half-mast after the death of a member of a Sts’ailes Chief or councillor, or former Chief or councillor on the advice of Sts’ailes administration. The flags will also now be flown at half-mast after the death of a local first responder, including paramedics, police officers, special constables, fire fighters and SAR team members.
Others included in the bylaw are Harrison mayor and council, or former council members on the advice of the village administration, as well as members of the British royal family, the governor general, and federal or provincial politicians.
Other individuals, including members of the armed forces, can also be honoured after their death at the mayor’s discretion.
The updated flag policy also ensures that the Sts’ailes flag will fly to the right of the village flag in Harrison’s civic plaza.
