A man armed with a hatched held up two convenience stores and then sped through Langley, RCMP say.
In the early hours of Jan. 13, the Langley RCMP received two calls about robberies, one in Murrayville, one in Brookswood, said Cpl. Holly Largy.
At both crime scenes, witnesses said a man entered the store, produced a hatched, and took cigarettes, cash, and in one case the entire cash register till drawer.
Armed with a description of the suspect’s vehicle, the Air One helicopter crew quickly located the vehicle.
They followed the vehicle as it sped through Langley, not stopping at intersections.
The car finally halted at a home in South Langley.
When officers on the ground arrived, they found the vehicle still parked, the suspect sitting in the driver’s seat.
He was arrested without incident.
Scattered inside the car were a hatchet, and the money and cigarettes.
Anthony James Robertson, a 31-year-old local man, has now been charged with two counts or robbery, two counts of disguising his face with intent, and one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He has been held in custody since his arrest and is next scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Jan. 27.
