He took on a police dog and lost.
The consolation prize for the loser is a trip to the Vancouver lock-up.
Police say the Surrey man was smashing the windows of cars in the 4800 block of Quebec Street in Vancouver Friday morning, when a Vancouver Police Department K-9 officer showed up.
The suspect decided to run straight toward the officer and his dog Blade and ignored commands to stop.
The officer unleashed Blade, and the suspect decided to fight the dog.
The officer tried unsuccessfully to handcuff the man while he punched, kicked and choked Blade.
Support arrived and the 39-year-old man was taken to hospital with dog bites to his calf before being hauled off to jail.
Officers discovered a total of five cars broken into and were able to return much of the property that had been allegedly stolen. Officers searching the area also discovered a stolen car that the suspect is believed to have used to get to the area.
The suspect is facing multiple counts of numerous charges, including theft under $5,000, mischief, possession of stolen property, assaulting a peace officer, and resisting arrest.
He was also found to have two outstanding warrants for breaching an undertaking.
Blade was able to return to work after the scuffle.
