A head-on crash snarled Malahat commuters early Tuesday morning and left many wondering how it happened.

Unconfirmed reports stated that a vehicle left the Malahat Gas station travelling south and collided with a northbound vehicle, just north of the Goldstream Boathouse turnoff on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The area has centre barriers, leaving it unclear how the southbound vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and how far that vehicle travelled in the wrong lane before the crash occurred.

One person was transported to hospital as a precaution. According to Langford Fire Rescue, injuries appeared to be non-life threatening. West Shore RCMP noted the driver that crossed the centre line was ticketed for driving on the wrong side of the road.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m., closing the highway for a short period of time and causing delays during the morning rush.
