Kimberley, BC – Got blues? The Kimberley Arts Council has the cure. Make an appointment with Doc MacLean and Morgan Davis (MD) as they bring their unique medicine – The National Steel ‘Blues Emergency’ Tour – to Centre 64 next Monday, October 29. Their songs-and-stories treatment is sure to alleviate a whole range of blues symptoms.
Doc MacLean is a weathered, wily, but infinitely likeable storyteller and performer. Writing from the dark side of the blues highway, Doc’s distinctive vocals and bare-fingers National guitar plot an intense, emotional remapping of contemporary Delta and roots music. He is joined by veteran bluesman Morgan Davis on this, Canada’s 7th annual biggest little blues tour.
‘Morgan Davis is a Canadian icon,’ says MacLean of his much celebrated, much awarded co-star. ‘He’s one of the greatest storyteller-entertainers, one of the best songwriters in the genre, one of the most respected musicians. I’m thrilled to have Morgan on the tour.’
The Tour’s theme – Blues Emergency – reflects MacLean and Davis’s view that the blues is a healing art form, and the title plays an obvious, humorous riff on the pairing of their names. ‘The Blues is actually in great shape across Canada,’ states MacLean, ‘but we will make house calls!’
So, bring your heartaches and your sorrows, your troubles and tears, your blues big and small for a healing dose of humour, songs, and stories courtesy of Doc and MD at Centre 64 on Monday, October 29 at 8:00 PM. Tickets cost $15 for Kimberley Arts Council members and $18 for non-members. Tickets are available now at Centre 64 and Natural Attraction in Kimberley and Lotus Books in Cranbrook. Tickets and KAC memberships will also be available at the door. For more information visit www.bluesemergency.blogspot.com or www.kimberleyarts.com.
