A new Nanaimo program is encouraging healthy living in four steps.
Island Health, the Regional District of Nanaimo and City of Nanaimo are partnering for Live 5-2-1-0 Nanaimo, a program that encourages exercise, healthy eating and limited screen time.
The City of Nanaimo has brought on six university students as ambassadors to educate and promote the 5-2-1-0 message, which stands for five vegetables and fruit daily, allow no more than two recreational hours of screen time daily, to play actively for one hour or more each day and choose zero sugary drinks, a city press release shows.
“With simple, affordable guidelines to follow, it’s an easy concept to remember and teach,” said Jennifer Coburn, 5-2-1-0 ambassador, in the press release, adding that educating people on the simple steps can lead to rewarding outcomes to the community’s overall health.
The message will be delivered through a series of workshops, classroom sessions and events.
