Near record-breaking heat hit the Alberni Valley this week with temperatures reaching up to 27.9 degrees Celsius on Monday and 27.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
According to Environment Canada historical data, record highs for April 18 and April 19 were 28.3 and 29.4 degrees Celsius, respectively. Both records were set in 1934.

This year is shaping up to be hotter than the last—in 2015, temperatures on April 18 and 19 only reached 20.3 and 22.9 degree Celsius, while the max temperature that month didn’t even crack 25 degrees Celsius.
Highs on April 20 hit 30.1 degrees Celcius, just half a degree shy of the all-time record 30.6 degrees Celsius, set again in 1934.
According to Chris Alemany, who runs Alberniweather.ca, “the ‘normal’ extreme high temperature is around 22-25 degrees Celsius for this time of year.”
