A Lake Country man was sentenced to six years in jail for robbing a Vernon bank last summer.

Trafton Michael Zakis, 40, pleaded guilty to robbery in Vernon Provincial Court, and was handed a mandatory firearms prohibition along with the six-year jail term.

A lone man entered the Royal Bank at The Shops at Polson Park July 28, just after 3 p.m. and demanded cash from the teller.

No weapon was produced during the incident and the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police received a tip from a Lake Country resident later that day about a man and woman who had come out of the bush across from his property “sweating heavily and requested water.”

The resident called police, who attended and arrested the two suspects.

A police service dog team also attended and conducted an article search in the area. Several items of interest to the case were recovered.
