Helicopter helped Langley RCMP track down man who fled on bike

Wanted suspect headed into Nicomekl flood plain

Langley RCMP officers used a helicopter to help track down a man who fled from arrest in a Langley City park on Wednesday.

The incident began around mid-day when a City bylaw officer spotted a man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, said Cpl. Craig van Herk, a spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

The bylaw officer told an RCMP community liaison officer. When the officer approached the suspect, he took off on a bicycle, said van Herk.

The fleeing suspect headed through alleys and streets before going into the Nicomekl Creek flood plain that winds through the centre of the City.

In the end, five officers, plus the Air 1 RCMP helicopter, were involved in the pursuit. The helicopter kept the suspect in sight until he left the park trails near 200th Street, where he was arrested.

After his arrest, the RCMP called in the BC Ambulance Service, as the man had a pre-existing injury.
