Mission residents are being consulted to determine priorities for the local police force this year.
Mission RCMP will be hosting a policing forum on Feb. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Leisure Centre gym.
In the past, police developed the priorities after studying statistics and working with council.
“We’re taking it one step further this year by going to the community,” explained Mission RCMP Insp. Ted De Jager. “We want to be collaborative. We want to know what the big issues are in town.”
The forum will feature an update on crime trends in the community, a review of the Mission RCMP detachment Annual Performance Plan and an update on new initiatives to increase levels of service and coordination with community partners.
The evening will end with a panel discussion and an open question period to raise concerns, offer suggestions, and a chance to meet with police officers and Mission detachment staff.
Staff from the Crime Prevention Office and volunteers will be out in force to display the full range of community crime prevention programs available.
