Help local Crime Stoppers and win a chance for a ‘staycation’

Crime Stoppers of the South Cariboo program is holding a raffle to raise funds for the pay-outs on the local tips.

“We wanted something different for prizes and also wanted to alleviate hitting up the businesses in town for donations. They have always been so supportive,” says Crime Stoppers member Darrel Warman.

“This year we are offering prizes of holidays close to home.”

The grand prize is a three-day, two-night stay and fishing trip for four at the Rock Island Lake Fishing camp, including everything but meals.

The second-place prize is the getaway at the Big Bar Guest Ranch for a couple to stay two nights, including meals.

The third-place prize is a two-night stay in a RV site and half day boat rental at Loon Bay Resort.

The raffle tickets will be out soon and sold around town, and Warman says Crime Stoppers will have a booth at the Mega Show at the end of this month.

The tickets will be on sale up to and including July 1.

“We will have the raffle tickets at the Canada Day celebrations at the

108 Heritage Site and will have the draw there later that afternoon.”

Crime Stoppers of the South Cariboo has 12 to 15 members and holds fundraising events a couple of times a year, usually a raffle and a golf tournament, she adds. It is too early to tell if there will be a golf tourney this fall, she adds, but there will be another raffle.

All money raised goes towards the Crime Stoppers TIPS line. Crime Stoppers is a completely anonymous program, and it not attached to the RCMP, but working in association with the police and communities.

Warman stresses the anonymity of calling the 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) tip line to report any suspicious or obvious crimes. Crime Stoppers pays cash awards for information leading to an arrest in connection with any serious crime and payment takes place anonymously.

The raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Warman suggests people Google the resorts on the raffle tickets to find out everything they have to offer, and go to www.kamloops crimestoppers.com for more information on Crime Stoppers.
