Rotarians Liz Geddes and Dave Maandag are helping with their group’s coat drive by setting up a donation box at the Citizen on Jubilee Street in downtown Duncan.

If you have winter coats lying around unused, bring them to the Citizen office and join the Duncan Daybreak Rotary Club.

The hard-working club is collecting warm winter wear to help the less fortunate this year.

“This is for low income people as well as homeless people,” explained rotarian Dave Maandag. “Expenses can get high in winter for some families.”

“There is a need to fill that gap,” agreed Elizabeth Geddes. “Dave is a member of our club as well as being the Salvation Army director so he has a good way to distribute the coats.”

So, bring your donation down to the big box at the Citizen. The clothing will all be picked up closer to Christmas.

“These coats will be laid out for people at the registration for our Christmas hampers at the end of November,” Maandag said. “As well, on our distribution days when people come in to pick up their hampers, when they’re waiting in the lineup, they can look through them and see what is there. We’ll just keep the [clothing pile] well stocked up and people can just grab them as they need.”

“We’re looking for any size of winter coat, but especially for kids,” Geddes added.

Maandag agreed.

“Kids tend to grow out of their coats,” he said. “But we take pretty much anything. There’s a need out there.”
