A provincial-federal partnership is funding programs that will help job seekers in the Lakes District.

The College of New Caledonia is receiving $159,707 for its Professional Class 1 driver training program. This 12-week program prepares participants for commercial truck driver jobs in the Lakes-Nechako region. The College of New Caledonia also received $43,809 for its AITT Access and Support program in Burns Lake and Vanderhoof. The funding will provide six weeks of additional tutoring support, textbooks and supplies to students in trades.

Carrier Sekani Family Services is also receiving $211,095 for the Burns Lake Bridging to Employment program, which offers 10 weeks of job readiness and skills training through jobs placements.

Some of these programs are delivered in partnership with the Industry Training Authority and the Ministry of Advanced Education. The goal of the training is to help unemployed British Columbians who face barriers to workforce participation to find sustainable employment.

The programs are now underway, and the majority will continue into September 2016.
