The Kelowna Y is hosting its 2nd annual YMCA Megathon event today at the Kelowna Family Y and H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre, where hundreds of local heroes for kids will participate in a variety of challenges while raising funds to support local children and families in need.
This fundraising event will direct all proceeds to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
YMCA Megathon activities include three Amazing Race challenges, a 4 hour Zumbathon, 100 x 100 swim, 3 on 3 Youth Basketball Tournament, the Big Lift, a FlowRider competition and more. Last year a member who struggled with swimming, swam 10K in the Triathlon challenge and a senior member, age 67, held a plank for 10 minutes and 7 seconds.
The Kelowna Family Y is located at 375 Hartman Rd. in Rutland and the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre is located at 4075 Gordon Dr.
One in five Okanagan children who are currently accessing Y programs are subsidized through the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. Many families simply cannot do it alone.
