High-profile Liberal makes stop

A senior Liberal is bringing the federal party’s message to Okanagan-Shuswap voters.

Bob Rae, Toronto Centre candidate and the party’s foreign affairs critic, will be at Vernon’s Schubert Centre Sunday.

“It will be a meet-and-greet but we will ask him to give his perspective on Canada’s role in the world and what is going on in Afghanistan,” said Janna Francis, the Okanagan-Shuswap Liberal candidate.

“What’s going on in our country with democracy is something he’s also interested in.”

Rae is the former NDP premier of Ontario and he was elected to the House of Commons as a Liberal MP in 2008.

Francis believes Rae’s visit will increase her profile leading up to the May 2 election.

“It’s a real boost for us as a campaign  team,” she said.

“It’s also telling the electorate that the people of this riding are important to the Liberal Party.”

The public is asked to be at the Schubert Centre at 10  a.m. Rae will arrive shortly after that and be there until  11:30 a.m.

Besides Rae, Francis has asked that Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff visit Okanagan-Shuswap before the May 2 election.

“He’s really busy and if he can, he will be here,” said Francis.
