A special school board meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 6 to discuss Mission’s school configuration.
Mission Public Schools is planning to merge three high schools into one by September 2015, while creating two middle schools in the process.
A consultant has been studying the schools and working on options since the summer. The school district has also been collecting feedback from students, parents, teachers, administrators and other members of the public for months.
The final debate will take place on Monday and at the end of the night, a high school will be chosen.
The change is being made because there are not enough students at each of the three high schools — Mission Secondary, Heritage Park Secondary, and Hatzic Middle Secondary — to staff and offer a range of classes.
“A lot of information has been received, but we’re still collecting input from the public,” said Edie Heinrichs, Mission school board chair. “What’s really exciting is we’ve been assured by our consultant, timeline wise, that we’re still on task and target.”
Comments can be submitted at www.mpsd.ca. Public input received after 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 will not be considered.
The special meeting will take place at Fraserview Learning Centre library, 32444 Seventh Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
