More areas within the North Okanagan could ultimately access high-speed Internet.
The Regional District of North Okanagan is supporting a bid by ispeed Communications for a $190,757 provincial grant to expand Internet service, primarily in the Armstrong, Spallumcheen and Enderby area.
“The high cost of infrastructure has been identified by communities and Internet service providers as one of the key barriers to expanding service to citizens in and around rural and remote communities,” said Leah Mellott, electoral area general manager.
Companies have previously accessed provincial funds to bring high-speed Internet to rural Lumby and Cherryville.
Park plans questioned
The prospect of a new park in the BX is drawing some debate.
The Regional District of North Okanagan board is considering a land use change so subdivision can occur on Rimer Road.
However, director Mike Macnabb wonders if a proposed 0.20-hectare park lot is needed.
“Will the park allocation be of benefit? It will be difficult to fence across the pond,” he said.
RDNO’s parks department will review the viability of the site for park before any further action is taken on a land use change.
The applicant is proposing to amend the land use designation from country residential to small holding.
If approved, the owner is planning to subdivide the property into a 1.12 hectare lot and a 1.58 hectare lot.
