Presentation from Our Horizon

Mr. Matt Hulse, B.C. Campaign Organizer for Our Horizon, provided a presentation about the proposed initiative to put air-pollution warning labels on gas pumps. The advertising campaign would be an effort to raise awareness as to how individual actions contribute to climate change issues.

Support for the 2015 Provincial Winter Fair

Ms. Carole Gillis, Beef Rep for the Provincial Winter Fair, and 4-H members Tavish Comrie, Marty LeBourdais and Naomi Willms provided a presentation about the 2015 Provincial Winter Fair and the opportunities 4-H provides to young people in the TNRD. The Board decided to provide $5,000 towards the 2015 Provincial Winter Fair.

Noxious Weed Control Bylaw Passed

Invasive Plant Control Regulatory Bylaw No. 2529, 2015, was passed, which will allow a TNRD weed control officer to inspect properties for invasive plants on a complaint-driven basis.

A TNRD weed control officer will also now be able to issue written notices to property owners to control invasive plants within a designated time frame.

AAP Established for the Nicola Valley

Mosquito Control Service

An Alternative Approval Process (AAP) was put in place for the Nicola Valley Mosquito Control Service Area Establishment. The deadline for submissions of the AAP Elector Response Form is 4 p.m. on October 2. In order for the service not to be established, elector response forms from at least 218 eligible electors will have to be received by the deadline.

Heffley Creek Community Hall to Receive $45,000 in Upgrades

The Board approved the expenditure to a maximum of up to $45,000 in Federal Gas Tax – Community Works Fund revenues allocated to Electoral Area “P” (Rivers and the Peaks) to fund energy efficiency upgrades at the Heffley Creek Community Hall.

Staff were authorized to submit Local Government Infrastructure Planning Grand Program applications for the following two projects:

• TNRD Regional Surface Water Treatment

Plant Installation Program

• Vavenby Community Water System

Infrastructure Condition Assessment Director Unveils Regional Growth Strategy

Monitoring Report

The Director of Development Services presented the Regional Growth Strategy Monitoring Report to the Board. The report is a review of 10 distinct indicators. It is anticipated that the data chronicled over time in future reports will allow a bigger overall picture and trends to emerge.

Meeting Sought at UBCM Convention to Bring Back Grasshopper Control Act

A request will be submitted for the TNRD Board to meet with the Minister of Agriculture at the 2015 Union of B.C. Municipalities Convention to request the reinstatement of the Grasshopper Control Act. It was repealed in 1998.
