Highway 1 north of Yale reopened

The highway was closed since Sunday evening because of a rockslide

Highway 1 north of Yale, near the Yale Tunnel, has been reopened after four days of closures.

Chilliwack-Hope MLA Laurie Throness confirmed that the highways has been reopened first hand as he drove through it. He added that both lanes are opened.

The highway has been closed since Sunday evening after a rockslide closed the highway.

Rock fall tends to occur this time of year as we transition from winter to spring and experience freezing and thawing temperatures, which can fracture and loosen rocks through mountain passes,” said Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure spokesperson Danielle Pope. “We have seen more slides occurring this year because of the longer than usual winter weather, the heavy snowfall and additional run-off.”
