Prince George Regional Provincial Traffic Services and the Prince George Municipal Traffic Unit are currently on the scene of a single vehicle collision on Highway 16, approximately 15 km east of Prince George.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., witnesses observed a small an eastbound vehicle lose control and leave the highway. The vehicle then returned to the roadway, flipped and rolled.
The driver of the vehicle was ejected and sustained serious life-threatening injuries in the incident. The driver has been transported to the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia in Prince George.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, although speed is believed to be a contributing factor, even in these early stages of the file.
Highway16 remains closed at this hour. It is anticipated the highway will remain closed for the next five hours. There is no organized detour available around the collision scene.
The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure are on the scene and will update the Drive BC website as conditions change. The highway information sign boards on Highway 16 will also be updated.
