Contracts worth more than $8 million have been awarded to ARC Asphalt Recycling Inc. and Dawson Construction Ltd. to resurface and rehabilitate approximately 60 kilometres of road along Highway 16.
These three rehabilitation projects will improve ride quality and safety for local residents, tourism and industrial truck traffic.
Widened shoulders will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists near the community of Burns Lake.
The Highway 16 Fort Fraser to Engen Road project will resurface approximately 24 kilometres of Highway 16 with hot-in-place recycling.
This work was awarded to ARC Asphalt Recycling Inc. and will begin five kilometres west of Fort Fraser and head east to Engen. The contract is worth $2,648,300 and work is expected to run from mid-May to mid-July.
The Highway 16 Richmond Loop to Tintagel Rest Area project will use pavement milling to address rutting and cracking of the travelled lanes and will also include shoulder widening up to one metre where possible.
This work was awarded to Dawson Construction Ltd. and includes 11 kilometres of Highway 16 east of Burns Lake. The contract is worth $2,995,801 and work is expected to start August 2 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
The Highway 16 Moricetown to Nouch Road project will resurface approximately 24 kilometres of Highway 16 with hot-in-place recycling.
The contract was awarded to ARC Asphalt Recycling Inc. and will take place west of Smithers. The contract is worth $2,529,490 and work is expected to start August 2 and be completed near the end of September.
