Highway 3A pot plant pulls soil application

A controversial cannabis production facility has withdrawn an application

A controversial cannabis production facility planned for a property on Highway 3A has pulled its application to move or bring in soil, making regional director comments on the build obsolete.

Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen directors learned Thursday at their regular meeting, Green Mountain Health Alliance (GMHA) has withdrawn its application to the Agriculture Land Commission for soil movement for non-farm use.

Dominic Unsworth of GMHA stated in an email talks with the ALC are going positively and things are moving ahead.

“I withdrew an ALC import fill application at RDOS a while ago because we have no need for it to complete our facility,” he stated in an email.

Because the property is part of the Agriculture Land Reserve, an application to the agriculture commission was required before fill was brought into the property. GMHA neglected to provide a Notification for Fill Placement to the Agriculture Land Commission Soils Department and retroactively attempted to do so. The RDOS was asked to provide comment in July, but directors deferred, asking the proponent to provide more information.

At an RDOS meeting held in July, Unsworth told regional directors fill including rock and compact crush was brought into the site to move forward on building a sub slab for the greenhouse and to be used as covering for a parking lot. He added at at that time a full report on all soils brought into the property was available and that no soil left the site.

Green Mountain Health Alliance Ltd.(GMHA), a Kaleden-based marijuana licence applicant, bought an approximate 8.4 hectare former horse farm on Highway 3A earlier this year. GMHA has plans to build 12,226 square-metre greenhouse to produce medical grade cannabis and is currently in the application process with Health Canada.

An earlier version of this story stated GMHA did not plan to move forward on building facility. That information was incorrect.
