UPDATE : July 5, 1:00 p.m.
At approximately 11 a.m. a geotechnical engineer conducted an aerial inspection Sicamous Creek.
The inspection was ordered after water levels dramatically dropped in the creek earlier this morning, followed by a muddy discolouration when the flow increased again..
The engineer has reported that about 2000 cubic metres of sand and dirt had restricted an upstream portion of Sicamous Creek, slowing down the water flow.
According to the engineer, no threat is posed at this time to the community or to workers in the area.
Water levels in the creek may fluctuate throughout the day.
UPDATE JULY 5, 11:45 a.m.
As of 11:38 a.m. DriveBC has announced that Highway 97A has been reopened.
The Highway had been closed down earlier today due to a mudslide in Sicamous Creek at Two Mile.
Concerned over potential for more flooding from Sicamous Creek following the mudslide Thursday morning that had closed the highway, residents of the Two Mile area, already on evacuation alert, were warned by police to be prepared to evacuate yet again.
A fire truck will be sent through the area sounding its siren if there is immediate need to evacuate.
There will be a fly-over around 10:30 a.m. to assess what’s occurring with water movement in upper elevations.
More details will be provided as they become available.
