Two hikers were lost on Mount Hays Oct. 17 and the ground search and rescue team was called at 3:30 p.m. to find them.

“Our subjects did exactly what they should, called for help, stayed in place and signalled our team with fire and a tarp,” said the post on the Prince Rupert Ground Search and Rescue Facebook page.

In record time, an hour and a half later, the two hikers were found safe and sound.

Banks Island Gold court rescheduled

The anticipated court case of the Banks Island Gold Mine, its CEO and chief geologist, was pushed from its Oct. 19 court date to Nov. 23 at 9 a.m.

On that date, the Prince Rupert law courts may see CEO Benjamin Mossman and Dirk Meckert face 18 charges under the Environmental Management Act due to unauthorized discharge of mine effluent and tailings and failure to comply with the permit by exceeding the allowed rate of discharge at the Yellow Giant mine site earlier this year.

However, the date may once again be pushed back if more information is uncovered between now and then.

Park Avenue school crossing

The Prince Rupert School District (SD52) board of education approved a letter to be written to the City of Prince Rupert advocating for a crosswalk installation on Park Avenue and Eleventh Street, making ‘Section 2’ students’ trips to school shorter and safer.
