The museum roof at the 108 Historical Site is in desperate need of repairing, and the 100 Mile & District Historical Society needs members.
“We got a couple of quotes for the roof,” says society president Tom Rutledge, “and the cheapest is $40,000.”
The 108 Historical Site has constant upkeep and with the museum roof needing to be redone, Rutledge says it can only be accomplished with members’ financial help. The society has applied to the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) for a grant in aid and to the Heritage Legacy Fund for the roof.
“We did get a notification from the CRD, we will know by early March if our application was accepted.”
Rutledge says the society has approximately 55 members and it’s worked hard to bring the site up to standards, and members want the standards to continue. He adds they don’t get government funding, but they may get a grant to hire a student or two during the summer.
“I enjoy preserving the historical buildings and artifacts. It’s fun to do, but we can use all the help we can get.”
