Barry Hobbis may have been runner up in last November’s municipal byelection, but his campaign expenses placed him as the top spender by a landslide.
Hobbis’ spent $29,170, mostly through contributions from the business community, including a donation of $15,000 from Bim Consulting owned by Ray Parks, executive director of the Provincial Capital Commission.
Winning candidate Marianne Alto’s campaign placed second most expensive at $17,035, with many contributions from NDP politicians and unions.
The top contributor was CUPE Local 4163, whose in-kind donation of $2,072 supplied Alto with a campaign manager.
The remaining candidates’ expenses ranged from a high of $3,875, declared by Paul Brown, to a low of $36 declared by Pedro Mora.
