An option has been created for workers affected by last week’s Target announcement: Courtenay Home Depot is hiring.
Spring is the busiest season for the home renovation giant, and the company needs some holes filled.
“We are looking for 164 hires for the whole Pacific (predominantly Vancouver Island) district – and for the Courtenay store we are looking for approximately 26,” said Home Depot district human resources manager Teri Voss.
The Courtenay store will begin its hiring process immediately, with the goal of having all positions filled by the end of March. And it’s not only temporary/seasonal positions available.
“Not at all,” said Voss. “At the current requisitions we have open for the Courtenay location, we have eight part-time and one full-time… with more requisitions opening up soon.
“We are only hiring one temporary, I believe, with the rest being permanent part-time and permanent full-time.”
The Home Depot hiring announcement comes on the heels of Target announcing the closure of all Canadian stores, including the Courtenay location, which will leave dozens of locals with retail experience looking for work.
Home Depot Canada is hiring approximately 5,500 workers nation-wide, including more than 650 associates in B.C.
While Voss would not comment regarding the timing of the Home Depot action, she is confident the positions will be filled.
“We are always looking for great people,” she said. “This is a really exciting time of year for us. We are looking for great talent, with the opening of the Garden Centre soon… we are expecting a great season and we are really hoping to see some great talent apply.”
The Courtenay location will not have a hiring fair per se. Voss recommends that anyone interested in employment apply online at homedepot.ca/jobs
