Home invasion victims arrested when police find drug stash

Two suspects on the lam, despite police dog search

The victims of a home invasion were arrested Monday and two suspects are still on the loose.

Several 911 calls came in to Victoria police around 11 p.m. about a home invasion in the 2100-block of Sayward St. in Fernwood. When officers arrived, there was marijuana strewn across the house, altogether weighing seven kilograms and worth about $40,000. There was also $4,000 in cash.

A 22-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, whose residence was broken into, were arrested and could be charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The break-in suspects fled the scene by the time police arrived, by driving away on Pembroke Street. They’re described as 22 to 30 years old with slim builds.

Staff Sgt. Kerry Panton said police aren’t certain whether the two people in the house knew the suspects, but it’s possible the invaders were seeking the sizeable drug stash.

“That would be a fairly accurate assumption, but so far, it’s too early to say,” Panton said.

Anyone with information on the incident can call Det. Phil Richmond at 250-995-7281 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
