Police temporarily shut down a portion of the Abbotsford-Mission Highway 11 bypass on Thursday afternoon during a situation with a homeless man.
The incident began at about 1 p.m., when officers stopped to talk to a man who was digging a hole under the Old Yale Road overpass, on the east side of the road.
The man became agitated and reportedly began swinging the shovel at the officers.
Back-up was called in, and the officers were able to detain the man without further incident. He was taken to hospital for evaluation.
