Chilliwack is expected to close out July under continued searing heat.
But cooler temperatures are on the horizon.
Environment Canada is forecasting above-30 temperatures for Monday and Tuesday, before a welcomed cooling trend moves into the region.
If the pattern holds, it would mean nine consecutive days where temperatures broke the 30-degree mark.
Sunday’s temperature was expected to climb to 34, making it the 11th above-30 day out of the past 14.
And it’s not just the heat. Air quality is also taking a hit, with the Air Quality Index expected to hit five on Sunday, or “moderate health risk.”
The heat and the air quality are prompting Environment Canada to issue warnings.
• Stay hydrated by drinking cold beverages, preferably water.
• Spend time in an air-conditioned facility for at least several hours every day.
• Avoid sunburn by staying in the shade and using sunscreen with SPF 30 or more.
• Never leave people or pets in a parked car.
Monday’s high is forecast for 34 (which will feel like 37 with the humidex), but the daytime high should drop to 24 by the weekend.
