At the District of Houston council chambers on July 18, 2017 a letter was presented to council from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #249 requesting a letter of support from the District of Houston council in the legion’s grant application for a concrete ramp.
The legion is applying for $24,169.26 from the Enabling Accessibility Funding, provided by the Government of Canada for the concrete ramp and railing to allow wheelchair and scooter access into the building.
“In an effort to provide more services and social activities for the entire community, we need to transform our building to be more accessible for veterans, seniors, and persons with disabilities who operate wheelchairs and scooters,” wrote Joanne Woodbeck, executive secretary for the Royal Canadian Legion Pleasant Valley Branch #249.
Woodbeck also writes that the grant will also finance a new front door that can be electronically opened by the push of a button for those who need to utilize it.
Houston council accepted the report and agreed to write a letter of support.
