Ballots for the referendum on the HST will be mailed out to registered voters on June 13.
The question posed by the referendum is: “Are you in favour of extinguishing the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) and reinstating the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) in conjunction with the GST (Goods and Services Tax)? Yes/No.”
Elections B.C. will run the referendum. Completed ballots must be mailed to Elections B.C. or delivered to a Service B.C. centre by 4:30 p.m. on July 22. The HST took effect in B.C. on July 1, 2010. Its poor reception was a major reason for former premier Gordon Campbell’s resignation.
