Hudson Bay heist nets thieves significant bounty

"Over 130 pieces of jewellery were stolen at the time totalling an approximate retail value of $176,000."

If you come across a shiny new Movado or Bulova watch being sold at a bargain basement price in less than regular circumstances, you may want to think twice.

It may be one of the items stolen in a brazen break and enter at the Bay, last month.

Mounties revealed Monday that at around 3 a.m. Aug, 19, two men and one woman broke into the mall by entering through the Cooper Road entrance using some “pry tools” in the place of a key.

“(They) proceeded directly to the purse and jewellery area of the store where they smashed glass cases that housed high priced jewellery and watches,” said Const. Kelly Brett.

“Over 130 pieces of jewellery were stolen at the time totalling an approximate retail value of $176,000.”

Brett said that the heist took no more than a few minutes, and the thieves took off in a getaway vehicle waiting outside.

Mall cops were on scene once police were called and although they didn’t stop the incident, they were able to help access security footage showing the theft in action.

Mounties acted on that information for the weeks that followed the break in, and when that failed to yield results, they went to the public.

Although the stolen goods could be anywhere, at this point, RCMP released the following list of what was taken alongside a description of the thieves.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP, Const. Apollonia De Jong, at 250-762-3300.  Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
