A mountain biker found human remains in the outskirts of Williams Lake Wednesday afternoon.
The Williams Lake RCMP say they received a report of found remains about two kilometres north of the Esler area on Wednesday and confirmed the remains to be human.
Investigators from the Williams Lake Serious Crimes Section, along with the BC Coroner’s Service, have completed their initial scene examination.
The initial investigation is unable to determine the identity, but investigators believe the deceased to be male. The ethnicity and age is still unclear.
Police say the “severely decomposed human remains” were found in a heavily wooded area, and that it is possible the deceased may have been at the location for a number of years.
An autopsy will be performed within the next week, which may provide more details as to the identity of the deceased.
No foul play is suspected at this time.
Investigators will inquire with neighbouring detachments to determine if any outstanding missing persons could be related.
