MOTORISTS are being urged to be cautious if driving up near Stewart as the highway there flooded and has remained flooded all day today.
“We are monitoring the situation closely,” says Stewart mayor Angela Brand Danuser.
“We ask that people use extreme caution near the river and when approaching the flooded sections of Highway 37.”
One lane of Highway 37A, 10 kilometers outside of Stewart, remains open after the road flooded early this morning, said interim chief administrative officer for the District of Stewart Peter Weeber late today.
The flooded section of highway is being monitored 24-hours, he said.
District officials are monitoring the water levels along the community dike system, said Weeber.
A number of Stewart residents and businesses have experienced minor flooding, he added.
Rain is expected to continue until Wednesday evening, he said.
