Two vehicles were damaged in separate incidents  Thursday, December 13 on Highway 3 near the Sumac Road turnoff.

In the early morning hours, a Cherolet sedan slid off the highway after hitting a patch of black ice, ending up several feet down an embankment. The driver, who was unhurt, managed to hitch a ride away from the accident scene, but failed to notify authorities.

Around 7:30 a.m.,  police, ambulance and fire department personnel responded to a second motor vehicle accident at the same location. Police spent a few anxious moments determining what happened when they could only find a single accident victim.

The second vehicle which was westbound, appears to have hit the same patch of black ice. It went off the road, struck a boulder in the ditch and rolled, ending up on its wheel on the opposite side of the road.

A 30 year old Osoyoos woman was treated on scene and released. No charges were laid in either incident.

Keremeos RCMP caution motorists to be aware of the possibility of black ice and adverse driving conditions as the region gets its first taste of winter weather.
