Police are under investigation for an incident in the south end of Nanaimo last summer, when a man said he suffered serious injuries.

According to a press release from the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., the incident occurred last Sept. 18. Information provided by Nanaimo RCMP on July 29 indicates there was a report of a stolen vehicle from Highview Terrace, near Haliburton Street. The man later told the IIO that he sustained serious injuries, that were not life-threatening, during the arrest.

The IIO says it will examine whether the officer’s actions or inaction played a role in the incident.

Anyone who may have video of, or information about, the incident is asked to call the IIO’s toll-free witness line at 1-855-446-8477. People with information can also contact the IIO at www.iiobc.ca/contact-us.
