Police released surveillance video of the suspect in an attack on Victoria’s well-known Darth Fiddler.
The footage, posted on VicPD’s YouTube account, shows a man in a red T-shirt running along the sidewalk and into the Broughton Street Parkade, with witnesses giving chase.
The suspect is accused of side-tackling Randy McKenna, known as Darth Fiddler when he plays violin at Government and Wharf streets, while his friends filmed the event on Saturday, June 11 at 7 p.m. Witnesses, seeing the tackle, chased the suspect into the parkade, but the man got away by jumping from a second-storey ledge onto a lamp post, shimmying down, and running off.
News of the tackle went rampant on social media platforms. The attention prompted Larsen Music to donate a new violin to McKenna, complete with a bow that looks like a light sabre.
McKenna was treated in hospital after the tackle and his violin was damaged.
