The RCMP arrested a man for having drugs and weapons after a traffic stop on Dec. 11.
At around 9:15 p.m. an RCMP officer saw an orange Dodge Neon driving erratically as it headed east on 4th Avenue. The driver stopped his vehicle and stumbled backwards toward the middle of the road, police said.
The suspect was allegedly showing several signs of intoxication and the officer detained the driver for being impaired.
On the way to the Smithers detachment the suspect allegedly started to kick the back doors of the police cruiser and threaten officers. The man was held in custody for court, and it was also discovered that he was a prohibited driver. The car was impounded for a week.
During the search of the Neon, police said they found a small amount of marijuana (enough for personal use), two knives and a club, all within reach of the driver’s area.
Thirty-year-old Clinton How, of Kelowna, was eventually charged on numerous counts, including impaired driving and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
How was released by a judge on Dec. 14 for a court date set in January.
