The Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation’s Festival Trees event scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled.

However, the online auction of the event is still going forward, featuring five decorated corporate trees valued at over $1,000 each. Mini-trees, originally supposed to be part of a raffle at the event, will also be available online.

Bidding is open until Nov. 27 at the REM Lee Hospital Foundation Auction Facebook page. All proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of a $211,000 ultrasound with echo-cardiogram for Mills Memorial Hospital.

On Nov. 19 Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s chief public health officer introduced sweeping new COVID-19 restrictions, forcing the cancellation of the in-person part of the Festival of Trees which was set to take place at Terrace’s Heritage Park.

Heather Bellamy, Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation administrative assistant said that the foundation will plan a redo of the event at Heritage Park next year, and thanked everyone involved.
