Investigation continues into assault

RCMP piece together the details from a puzzling string of incidents Wednesday

A puzzling string of events Wednesday have been pieced together by RCMP.

Police were able to narrow a series of calls down to this: a woman was assaulted inside her parked vehicle at the hospital Wednesday morning as a suspect attempted to take the vehicle. The victim, a Vernon resident, was not injured.

“We later determined that he broke into a residence,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

A 30-year-old Vernon man was arrested near the walking trails and stairs off of Okanagan Avenue.

“He is from the Vernon area and known to police,” said Molendyk.

The suspect was expected to appear in court Thursday to face charges of break and enter.

But the investigation is ongoing.

“There is, in all likelihood, further charges coming in relation to the incident with the woman in the car.”

Those charges could be assault, attempted theft or robbery, said Molendyk.

RCMP are still trying to piece together the details from a puzzling string of incidents today.

It started with a call about a minor assault to a woman at a home in the 1800 block of 31A Street.

While officers were dealing with that call and searching for a suspect, other calls started to come in about incidents which may have taken place before or after.

There was a call about an individual being approached in their car as well as a possible break and enter indication.

“(The suspect) was eventually arrested up above Fulton where the stairs and walking trails are,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

“The individual is known to police.”
