On Monday, April 22, several investigators were on the scene of a weekend blaze in Aldergrove that sent three people to hospital and damaged four houses, displacing more than a dozen residents.

“We’ve got a team out there of investigators, with the insurance company, to try and determine cause right now,” said deputy fire chief Russ Jenkins.

“Because of the the size and the number of units involved, we’ve got a fairly big team assembled.”

Jenkins said two of the four houses got the worst of it.

“Two of them, looks like they were damaged beyond repair, while two suffered exposure damage [to the exteriors],”Jenkins said.

Three people were taken to hospital, two for treatment of smoke inhalation and one for minor burns suffered trying to put out a fire.

One of the displaced residents, Laura McFarland, and her three children, had just moved into their new home.

“There was three bangs at the very back,” McFarland told the Langley Advance Times.

“Then the tree in the corner of the house caught on fire and that basically spread over to my house, and within a few seconds the whole balcony was on fire and a few minutes [after that it] started coming inside our house.”
