Island Savings launched its new community investment program last week called The Full Cupboard, which aims to provide 650,000 meals to children on Vancouver Island over the next three years—and that includes families supported by the Lake Cowichan Food Bank.

On Saturday, Island Savings employees held a barbecue outside the Lake Cowichan branch with hot dogs and buns donated by Country Grocer.

“Raising funds with our members and employees through The Full Cupboard will relieve some of this immediate need for food,” said Island Savings president Randy Bertsch said in a press release.

Branches across the Island will be raising money and food donations as part of this program.

Betty Sanddar, director of the Lake Cowichan Food Bank, said the group relies on the support of institutions like Island Savings to help them fulfill their mandate.

“We really appreciate Island Savings for this,” she said on Saturday. “There’s always such a need.”
