It’s easy to make your vote count

With the federal election just around the corner, here is a rundown of what you need to know before heading to the polls Oct. 19.

If you live in 100 Mile House, Clinton, 108 Mile Ranch, 70 Mile House, Canim Lake and the surrounding areas, eligible voters have the right to vote for a candidate running in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Riding.

The Elections Canada main office for the riding is located at 1201 Summit Dr. in Kamloops, but the South Cariboo Election Office is at Suite #1 150 Birch Ave. in 100 Mile House beside Didi’s.

The 100 Mile House office hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

Eligible voters can cast their ballots at any Elections Canada office or by mail before Oct. 13

The official election day takes place on Oct. 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in British Columbia.

There will be four additional advance voting days – starting tomorrow (Oct. 9) through Oct. 12., and the polling stations will be open from noon to 8 p.m. 100 Mile House residents can vote at Creekside Seniors Activity Centre at 501 Cedar Ave.

Voting locations and times for the advance voting days and for Oct. 19 will be on voter information cards, which should have been delivered on Oct. 1.

If you don’t know whether you are registered to vote, you can check your status online by going to elections.ca. Folks can find answers to a number of questions at elections.ca, or by calling 1-800-463-6868.

The candidates running in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Riding are Conservative Cathy McLeod, Liberal Steve Powrie, New Democrat Bill Sundhu and Green Party candidate Matt Greenwood.
