Jacklin Road now open after gas leak

Homes evacuated during natural gas leak in Langford

A natural gas line ruptured by an excavator on Jacobson Road near Jacklin Road in Langford this afternoon resulted in the evacuation of nearby homes and one apartment building.

Jacklin has been closed to traffic from Goldstream Avenue to Orono Avenue as Fortis B.C. crews work to crimp off the gas line, which was loudly spewing gas.

“It’s flammable. It’s not as challenging as propane because it’s lighter than air and dissipates, but there’s always a risk for an explosion and fire,” said Langford Fire Chief Bob Beckett. “Taking precautions.”

Jacklin Road has now been reopened.
