A man who committed three robberies in Mission over a two-week span has been sentenced.
Derek James Fleet, 39, was sentenced to 16 months in jail after pleading guilty to robbing an Esso gas station at the corner of Dewdney Trunk Road and Stave Lake Street on Jan. 24 and again on Feb. 4.
Fleet also pleaded guilty to robbing Magicuts at the Junction Mall on Jan. 31. A person in the business at the time of the incident reported the robber walked into the hair salon, drew a knife and asked for cash from the till. The man apologized before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.
Fleet – who was arrested soon after his final robbery – was also sentenced to 18 months probation and handed a mandatory 10-year firearms prohibition.
Fleet has a criminal record. He was charged with assault in September, but five days after he was granted bail in December, a warrant was issued for his arrest. He pleaded guilty in connection with the file after his arrest in February and was sentenced to 12 months probation. Last year, he was fined $1,500 after being convicted of care or control of a motor vehicle while impaired.
