A 30-year old Trail has been sentenced to 30 days in jail following a rash of thefts from cars this summer.
Shaun Venturini appeared in Rossland Court last week and was convicted on five counts, three related to stolen property and two for breaching probation conditions on an order issued in the Vancouver area.
RCMP Acting Sgt. Devon Reid confirmed in a Friday news release that Venturini was sentenced to 30 days incarceration and one year of probation with various conditions.
Theft charges include one count of Possession of Stolen Property, one count Possession of a Stolen Credit Card and one count Possession or Use of a Stolen Credit Card.
On Aug. 21, officers from the Greater Trail RCMP detachment located and arrested Venturini on more than six offences stemming from the theft of items from unlocked motor vehicles in the Trail, Fruitvale and Montrose areas.
In each case, the suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and removed items that were left in the vehicle.
Following that arrest, Acting Sgt Reid told the Trail Times the suspect was tracked down through video surveillance at a local businesses.
The man used a stolen credit card and was caught on tape.
“When we took the video surveillance we said ‘Hey I know who that guy is,'” revealed Reid. “We found him and went and picked him up.”
Trail RCMP would like to remind local residents to lock their vehicles and remove any valuable items from plain sight in order to prevent thefts like this from occurring.
