Jaywalking teen struck by car near Uptown

At 5:22 p.m., Aug. 29, police responded to Blanshard just north of Saanich Road, between Saanich Plaza and Uptown where three girls were crossing the southbound street near but not on the pedestrian controlled crosswalk. One of the pedestrians was hit just before reaching the curb.

A teenage girl was hit by a car Monday evening while jaywalking across a section of the four-lane Blanshard Street.

At 5:22 p.m., police responded to Blanshard just north of Saanich Road, between Saanich Plaza and Uptown where three girls were crossing the southbound street near but not on the pedestrian controlled crosswalk. One of the pedestrians was hit just before reaching the curb.

The teen was transported to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

“You take your lives into your own hands (when you jaywalk), especially when you’re only a few metres from a crosswalk,” said Sgt. Dean Jantzen.

Charges are not being contemplated against the driver of the vehicle involved.
