It may not be official until next week, but it appears that John Kidder will be the Green Party’s candidate for the riding of Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon.
Kidder – the fiancé of Green Party leader Elizabeth May – is a resident of Ashcroft and was in Mission on Sunday as part of May’s Communities Matter Tour.

While the Green Party will not be officially naming its candidate for the riding until next week, at this point in time, Kidder is the only person to have put their name forward.
Kidder spoke briefly during May’s presentation on Sunday night, telling the mission crowd that he needed their help.
“I know a lot of folks in all the little towns up north. I know the people down river. I’m looking forward to getting to know a whole lot more people, but this country down here, in the lower Fraser River, this is not country that I’m familiar with. So, I really need your help. I need the help of the chiefs and the elders down here to help me understand what’s going on,” said Kidder.
He said he wants to meet with people from the communities to understand what is really critical here.
“I’m going to be doing a mini-version of Elizabeth’s Community Matters Tour. Over the next few months I’m going to go to every single inhabited area in this riding,” said Kidder.
He then joked about how important it is that he win a seat during the October federal election.
“If I don’t get elected, I’ll never see my (soon-to-be) wife again.”
