Two families who could maybe use a little holiday cheer got just that on Friday, courtesy of the Kelowna Auxiliary Constable Program and Sgt Sammy, the Safety Bear.
Several Kelowna RCMP Auxiliary Constables presented two families with a cheque for $500 each and a few small gifts to help them through the holiday season, Dec. 20.
“The Kelowna RCMP Auxiliary Constable Program wanted to benefit families that might be experiencing financial difficulties and two separate single mothers to multiple children were selected to receive the donation,” said Const. Kris Clark, in a press release.
“Each family was brought in to the Kelowna Detachment Friday afternoon and were surprised with the monetary gift as well as some small stuffed animals for the kids.”
Sgt Sammy, the Safety Bear, was on hand to supervise the presentation and gave out some hearty holiday hugs, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.
“Today we were able to give a small gift to some deserving families,” said Auxiliary Constable John Bauer.
“it is just one more example of how committed we are to our community and it sure felt good to see the joy it brought.”
Every year the RCMP Auxiliary Constable Program in Kelowna invests more than 12,000 volunteer hours back into the community with each Auxiliary committing a minimum of 160 hours each. Many put in well over that amount with every single one of them committed to supporting our community.
The Kelowna RCMP Auxiliary Constable Program would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.
